"I did not learn anything."

"I did not learn anything at school today" is the quote of the day from the girls. I asked them and they said nothing. I asked them why they are even going to school. Katie was upset because she thought she was going to get to go to the big playground at school since she is in 1st now but she had to go to the small playground. She was not happy!! Sara was excited because she will have homework every night except Wed. and Fri. She came home and got right on it before doing anything else. I was so proud of her!! Hopefully she will keep that kind of attitude and not whine about doing it.
All my girlfriends went to the coffee shop this morning to celebrate school starting. We were all full of smiles and joy because the kids were back in school. 6 of us went out to lunch together also and then it was work time. We had to get PTO packets ready for 550 students. FUN, FUN, FUN!!
Little David has now almost been in college for a whole week. He says that he has lots to do and already wants to drop a class. His dad is trying to tell him to hang on a little longer and see how things go. When he comes in each day he looks like he has been beat to death. He leaves around 7 AM Mon, Wed, and Fridays to commute over an hour for school and he is also going to work on Tues. and Thurs. w/ his dad. Some days he actually goes out and does pest control and some days he stays in the office and does school work depending on what work we have.
I like getting back into our routine. I have a construction worker coming tomorrow to see about adding a covered front porch on to the house and I am really excited about that. A friend had a simple looking house like ours on the front and she added a front porch and dormers to her house and it looks totally different. I am hoping it won't cost too much and we can do that too. I have always thought our house looks more like a city house than a country house and I think a front porch all the way across the front would make it look country. Well, I am worn out. Going to bed early because the girls were up half the night because they were soooo excited about school.
Back to normal,

Final Countdown

Less than 24 hours until school starts....yeah. The girls are so excited. We washed our hair and took our baths without any fussing tonight. They already have their clothes layed out w/ their shoes and have their backpacks by the front door. We have lunches made and put in the refrig. Hope we don't forget them w/ all the excitement in the AM. A bunch of girls are going to the coffee house in the morning to celebrate school starting and then going over to one of the mother's house to work on PTO packets that we have to get ready for all the students to be handed out this week. We have 500 packets we have to make. No fun ! ! ! The girls were in bed by 9 tonight but they won't go to sleep because they are soooo wired up. It is 11 PM and they are laying in the bed giggling. Bet they go to bed early tomorrow night. Hope everyone has a great first day of school !

Summer break is finally over,

Summer is almost over

Yeah, summer is almost over and school starts Monday. We had meet the teacher tonight. Katie got Ms. Manning (the same teacher that Sara had last year) and I am so happy. I really like her. She is young and fun. Katie has said all summer that she wanted Ms. Manning so she was really happy. Sara got Mrs. Pulford for 2nd grade. She was new to our school last year so I really don't know much about her. She is an older woman and I think that Sara will learn alot from her. I was really impressed w/ her classroom. It was so organized and everything had a label and a place. Sara was excited because several of her friends from Kindergarten and 1st grade were in her class. She really wanted a teacher named Mrs. Clayburn but I did not know if that would be the best choice because she lives 3 doors down and her whole family lives on my block and they are friends of ours. I was afraid that she might not be as tough on Sara because she did not want to upset me. I am really excited for the new year. Little David said that things went well at college on Wed. He had 3 people from Mabank in his first class. I think that will help that he sees people he knows. Well, not much else to say about today. Only about 85 hours until school starts---Yeah.
Almost back to normal around here,
Shawn

Sick of High School Musical 2 already ! ! ! ! ! !

I am about to go crazy--my girls won't quit watching High School Musical 2. We TiVoed it Friday night and they have watched it at least 10 times since then. I just about got all the songs memorized already. Parents, let's start a "Please no more High School Musical" campaign and send it in to Disney.

Sick of Troy, Gabriella, Sharpay, Evan, and the whole Wildcat class,
Shawn

It's Official ! ! ! !

Little David is officially a college student. Today was his first day at UT-Tyler. He is taking classes there and also online classes at Eastfield College. He is going to have a tough semester though because he is taking 24-25 hours. I think that is way too much but his dad says that all he has to do is study and not work so he should have plenty of time to get it all done. I am not real happy because he is still living at home. I just assumed that he would go off to college and live there. I was really hoping to get his room for an office/scraping room. Oh, well.
School is almost here. I am so excited because I am about to pull my hair out with the girls running around all day w/ nothing to do. I cleaned the house and as soon as I got one room done and moved on they were in the clean room messing it up. I definately needed to be medicated today because I was about to go crazy. Tomorrow night is "Meet the Teacher". I am really nervous because my children really want certain teachers and I really hope they get them. I am worried about Sara because she is going into 2nd grade and they have lots of homework. She really did not have much homework last year and she is going to have to learn that she has that responsibility. I will let everyone know tomorrow night if my children are happy w/ their teachers. Not much to vent about today. Check back tomorrow.

When it rains it pours . . . . . .

It seems like lately around here that everything is going wrong. I thought things usually happen in threes but around here it seems like by the dozen. Let's see, in the last month, our car broke down 2 days before we were supposed to leave on a roadtrip to Las Vegas. Thanks to my parents we borrowed their SUV and got to go. While we were gone they did not fix the car or bother to call us and when we got back a week later I called and they said it was not covered by warranty and would cost $800 to fix. After the car being in the shop for 3 weeks we picked it up and got it fixed for $200. So, I am on the "I hate FORD products" bandwagon right now!!!
Next thing that happened was the big screen TV in our living room went out and they wanted somewhere between $600-$800 to fix it. Good things came out of that though--my hubby finally got his big 60" plasma TV now.
That same day the house felt hot but I thought is was just because I had been running around cleaning all day and was just hot. By the time my hubby got home around 5 or so he came in and said that it showed it was 80 degrees and it was hot. It got worse as the night progressed and we all about died from the heat. I just knew with the luck we had been having that we were going to be out several thousand dollars for a new unit. Good things came out of that also---a switch had gone bad and made the heat come on and I got that fixed for a little over $100.
Oh, and the best one yet--my stepson who is 18 yrs old and thinks that he is an adult and should get to do what he wants when he wants decided to get into an argument with his father and take out his anger management on my ceramic stove top $1500 oven. Good things came out of that also though--I got a new stove and also a new dishwasher.
Wow, I am worn out just thinking about all of it. So, after all the bad things it all worked out (except the stepson thing--he still thinks that he should be able to do what he wants when he wants).
I am really starting to like this blog thing because I can get everything out and express myself. Keep checking back because my life is definately not boring.

Anyone want an 18 yr old,
Shawn

First Blog Ever

Okay, this is my first time at blogging. I decided that I needed somewhere to put down my thoughts for the day or things that are happening in my life. I love that there is a place that if anyone even cares to know what is going on can come and see if they like OR if they don't then they don't have to read it. I will try this out and see if I keep up with it.

First subject to blog about: Can't wait for school to start!! My kids need to get into some sort of routine again. There is only so much things that you can do in the summer and especially not alot with this HOT weather. I have one major issue that I am ready to get something done about. An 18 yr old laying around all day doing nothing for the last week because his summer college classes are done and he has nothing to do. GO TO WORK WITH YOUR DAD OR SOMETHING!!!!
Sara is begging to go see the movie "Hairspray" because it has Zac Efron from High School Musical in it. I might take her to see it tomorrow. We went to see "Underdog" last Friday. It was really a cute movie. Thumbs up!!
Oh, big news.....I got a new car (well) truck. I have been having lots of problems w/ the Expedition so David decided that he wanted to get rid of the thing. I now have a 2007 Chevy 1/2 ton Silverado Crew Cab White truck. I love it !!! Was scared that there would not be enough room for my family but it is great. Well, enough for my first blog. It is 2:14 AM and I need to get to bed.
Cheers,
